My Journey as a Skillshare Teacher

By Violeta León

To be honest I never though I could work as an artist, earn money by being creative. That at the beginning sound like a crazy thing to do. But I tested by posting my first class "Learn how to Draw 4 Different Owls". My boyfriend helped me, recording me while a drew. I'm blessed with him and how much he supports me. Its no easy to find the best position to capture your draw and let the student really see all the details they need to learn how to do it by themselves. Also, I was checking if the website really does pay. Then I discover, they only pay if you get 30 premium minutes watched. That increased my needed to find people enrolling my class, so I decided to make a new class called "Learn How to Draw Cartoon Faces".  Right now, this class is trending at skillshare because I got 26 students watching it. It does make me feel like I'm on the right track. I started posting my links on twitter, sharing on Pinterest, Facebook, G+, that much that I felt like I was a spammy girl. Funny to me, but not to my family who sees my facebook page everyday! lol.

I discover that giving is much more appreciated by everyone around you. That's when I created my Pinterest board called: "Skillshare Classes". I started by posting everyone else classes, but I learned that group boards gets more views, so I invited all Skillshare teachers I knew to collaborated on the board. And is growing so far. I give a lots of hearts on instagram too, to all people who works or study at Skillshare. That love comes back. Its a lot easier when you share others people work, because that support is what help us grow and learn. What worked for me, or other teachers, those tips and tricks to make a better class, every  advice and knowledge is worth millions, and make the experience worth all the time spent.

I had an special guest collaborating on my class !My son!. My true love, help me as a model for my two class: 3 easy face painting Marvel and DC Comics Heros. We had so much fun by spending quality time together. All the process we both were making decisions and finding what it was better to show in the class. At "best cheek art & fast face painting" I did all the designs he likes from his favorite movies or TV shows. He truly inspires me to be the best I possibly can. That's why I practice a lot before doing a class. I don't want to let him down.

From sketch to sketch, Robots Series were born. Drawing doodles is a fun way to make themes for a party, a birthday card, notebooks decorations, wall art, bags art, t shirt decorations and portraits. I use them also, for my university project, where I needed to design a Robot, and that was so easy, because I doodle them all the time. That moment, I felt so inspired and grateful because I reach a extra mile from wondering if teaching will work and actually making it work the best possible for me.

I took my heart and brain, mixed it all together with a lot of time, research, study and practice to publish my "Improve your memory power by drawing easy doodles" class. Is the longest class I've ever done in my live but it was worthy. I love how I could teach what every kind of doodle means and where we can use them. How we understand every draw and how we can remember important information by drawing them next to it. At the same time, how to doodle on your smartphone, was challenging for me, but was an extra that I wanted to share because we use our smartphone all day long, its a tool we need to help us improve our memory.

Every night before going to bed, I read, do a little research on how can I improve, what new or easier ways are out there to paint or draw. Finding ways to unlock all the creative that lies in me, to fully share it with all around me. This is how I grew in a few months, from making small class, testing me, and then setting big goals to push myself to do the best and give all of me. Now I ask myself, what people will learn from what I do? How they will improve their skills? will they be inspired by this class? If the answer is absolutely yes! I publish it.
